About the Prom Closet

For high school teens, senior prom is one of the most memorable experiences of their high school life. Although the prom is common in schools all over the country, the reality is that not every young girl can afford to attend. You can help change that and offer young ladies of Memphis the chance to experience one of the most unforgettable moments of high school! Memphis Prom Closet is collecting prom dresses for the fourth annual Prom Party to provide dresses to girls in need, from February 1st – March 1st.

When the women of Brown Girl Dreams, formerly known as Girl Talk Memphis, and Smitten Events realized there was a need to make prom a reality for economically disadvantaged teenage girls, they teamed up to create Memphis Prom Closet, an organization that provides prom dresses free of charge, to girls who would have not otherwise had the opportunity to participate in their prom activities. After three successful years of donations to Northside High School and Douglass High School, this year, Memphis Prom Closet has chosen to donate proceeds to not only Douglass High School, but also to the junior and senior young ladies of Soulsville Charter School and Hollis F. Price Middle College.
