After realizing they needed to do more for their city and the young ladies they were surrounded by, Joy and Lori decided to be the catalyst for change. They had a dream to show teenage girls of color that they could overcome anything and attain the goals of their future.  In January 2010, they created a pilot mentoring program called Girls Talk Memphis at Northside High School. The Dream was realized and reached over 60 teenage girls in its first year. With its growth, more schools sought to participate, and two friends came together to turn Girls Talk Memphis into Brown Girl Dreams.

As the new Program Leads, Tamara and Tatiyanna coordinate sessions, communicate with Reality Consultants, school administrators and parents, provide Dream Girls with counseling and assist with creating a balance between learning in the classroom and managing a fun and exciting teenage life. They are the first contact with the young ladies in showing them they are capable of accomplishing unimaginable greatness!
